How Many Days Do You Need in Italy?

One of the first questions I hear from travelers is:

"How many days do I really need in Italy?"

While you can see a lot in a week, Italy is one of those places where slowing down often leads to the best memories.

Here's a simple guide to help you decide.

7 Days

A week is enough to experience two destinations without feeling rushed.

A classic itinerary might include:

  • Rome & Florence

  • Venice & Florence

  • Florence & the Tuscan countryside

You'll see some incredible highlights, but you'll probably leave wishing you had more time.

10–14 Days

For most travelers, this is the sweet spot.

Ten to fourteen days gives you enough time to experience Italy's famous cities while also slowing down and enjoying the moments between them.

You might explore Venice's quiet canals, spend a few days in Florence, relax along the Amalfi Coast, or enjoy incredible food in Bologna without constantly packing and unpacking.

2 Weeks or More

If you have two weeks or longer, Italy really begins to unfold.

Instead of checking attractions off a list, you can enjoy cooking classes, vineyard visits, day trips, local markets, and afternoons with no schedule at all.

Those are often the moments people remember most.

My Recommendation

If your schedule allows, aim for 10 to 14 days.

It gives you enough time to experience Italy without feeling like you're racing from city to city.

After all, Italy isn't just about seeing famous landmarks.

It's about lingering over dinner, wandering streets with no destination, discovering hidden cafés, and saying yes to experiences you never planned.

Those moments are hard to fit into a rushed itinerary.

And they're often the ones you'll remember long after you return home.
